Many people living in remote areas of this country become like this tree, it seems. Growing strong and alone they weather the winter winds and cold and the summer heat and somehow are stronger and more enduring because of this. They seem entirely comfortable with being alone.
In fact the snow began as soon as I took this and got back in the car, a real blizzard, one of the ugliest days of the winter (so far). I don’t know what this crop is, but though I wanted to identify it, the weather was so cold and miserable that I just couldn’t bring myself to go into the field to find out. It’s not Brussels sprouts as I thought at first. Let’ hope Spring is soon coming.
Edit: I now realize that this is a field of kale.
Always keen to go for a run, Joni is at her happiest out in the woods and fields with us. She carries her supplies in her Ruffwear Pallisades backpack, so we will not be without snacks and water on our treks.

Sad news today that Ron Hynes, iconic Newfoundland Singer Songwriter, “The Man of a Thousand Songs” has died.
I photographed him in 2009 and in 2011. This is from 2009.
We were quickly scanning old photos from our time in France when we came across this one of +Ellie Kennard taken about 20 years ago. At the time we had a beautiful German Shepherd Vicky, our old Joni and the playful Lhasa Apso, Millie. (Our young neighbour had difficulty pronouncing Millie so in time her name became Mellie, then evolved into Melanie.)

This is an album of pictures of the orchard that inspired the making of the “Lost Orchard” box, which is described in the video about my work. I was asked to show some of the trees from that orchard before it was cut down. I thought I should make a collection to represent these beautiful lost trees. Surely there should be a #snowsunday or something of that nature? Instead of #depthoffieldSunday why not a #depthofsnowSunday ?

In a previous posting, where we talked about a very cold and snowy walk with Joni, our friend Ursula asked to see a photograph of how she looked at the end of her walk. We were out for 2 hours and the wind was blowing the snow swirling around the fields. Joni never seemed to mind as long as we kept throwing her toy.
So here she is, Ursula waiting for you to throw her a blue ball! You can bring Mira along with you, though she might find it a bit cold!
