From temperatures of -17C just a day or two ago, this morning we were faced with +9C. The huge extremes in temperature created this wonderful fog that bathed the landscape, producing these ethereal scenes.
It is quite amazing the advances that have been made in digital photography since the days when I took this picture on my Canon D30, Canon’s first DSLR camera to be released, sporting a massive 3 MP sensor!
At the time I was shooting in jpg (ouch) as I was not yet aware of the advantages of raw images. I became so, shortly afterwards.
This was my first (and only so far) trip to Niagara Falls. The falls that you see in the distance are on the US side, while the Maid of the Mist is heading toward the Canadian falls which are to my right and behind where I was standing.
Since I took this image in 2010, the castle grounds have been renovated and the fountain no longer exists. All of the landscaping in front of the castle has been changed. This was taken at 10 pm and just a few moments after I took the shots, the fountain was turned off and all of the lights went out. The next time I went there there fountain was gone and this site was full of huge digging machines completely changing the landscape around the approach to the castle.
