Joni loves the snow and, at the moment after all of our snowfalls this winter, when she runs through some areas of the garden the snow is well over her head. Under the trees it is more sheltered and she comes up for breath. Her puppy hood is going so fast, she will soon be grown, so we have to make the most of this time.

Happy Days are Here Again – introducing Joni – 18/365

The house was just too empty. Now it is just SO full of bounce and happiness and joy! This new Joni came home with us on Saturday. She is (I'm sure I don't have to tell you) absolutely perfect. (Border Collie, of course.)

I must relate a little story of how Joni 3 came to be ours. We were going to see her, not sure if she was coming home with us, for many different reasons. She is related to our last Joni, the one we lost in October. When we had finished looking at her, patting her and watching her play with her siblings, we stood and chatted with her breeder. The puppies settled into two heaps in their play area and fell asleep together. When it came time to make a decision and go home with or without her, Steven looked at her in the pile of sleeping puppies and asked "well, are you coming home with us then?". She looked up, stood up alone, walked over to the edge of the play area and put her paws up on the top. No one else had moved. She chose us as much as we chose her. So of course she came home with us. Looking at her eyes, can you imagine turning her down? And now  I have a new photography assistant apprentice.

Frost Hooks

The only wonderful thing about having single paned windows in the Canadian winter, is being able to photograph the beautiful patterns that are created by the frost.  (Un)fortunately we had new windows put in this year, so I have to look in my archives to share these images.

Snow Waves

This is the last photograph I took on my walk yesterday and the sun was at the lowest in the sky, creating long blue shadows. The sculpture had a very serene, peaceful feel to it. I hope you get the same feeling from it. (More serene, hopefully, as you won't be half as cold as I was!)

After the Storm

The day after an extreme blizzard, with temperatures of -22 C (c. -8 F) and 17 hours of wind and snow, the landscape here has been transformed into sculpted dunes, with only a rare bit of remaining vegetation showing above the surface.

Feeling a Little Naked

For the first time in 35 years I don't own a lathe. I just sold my old faithful General and am now eagerly awaiting my new longbed American Beauty by Robust Lathes – hopefully to be delivered in January. What is also very exciting for me is that I have been appointed as an authorized dealer for these wonderful lathes and accessories.

Stay tuned for photographs of some new pieces to be made on this great lathe!
