Introducing the Elusive Big Fluffy Tail Squirrel

In album Animals (46 photos)

I have been trying to photograph this shy squirrel for ages. It is hard to see in the open areas and if it makes its way to the ground under the bird feeders it runs off at the sound of a human footstep or the click of a door latch. Finally one day I found it hiding in a tree and managed to get a shot at it.

What makes this squirrel different from our usual ones is that it is about twice the size of the slim manic red squirrel that was featured last week and is our usual variety. It has much more of the agouti coat, with only a hint of red, and it features a huge, bushy, silky, silver tail, which is the first feature you notice about it. He's heavy and clumsy and tumbles off branches and out of the tree at times. Not at all sure footed like the red clown nearby.

I got a few photographs of it, so this is the first. For +Squirrel Saturday  #squirrelsaturday  and the squirrelicious +Beth Blackwell and +Skippy Sheeskin

So You Think I Look Cute? I'm a Murderer. Do You Still Find Me Cute?

Do you know what this little chipmunk was doing, moments before I took this photograph? He was pounding the life out of a poor little goldfinch. There was plenty of food for everyone, he just chose to do this for fun. He had been sitting there eating black oiled sunflower seeds along with the birds and then turned on the poor youngster and killed him.

I couldn't wait until +Squirrel Saturday  #squirrelsaturday   before exposing this little monster and his crimes. Sorry to burst the bubble of cuteness, but there you have it. +SE Blackwell +Skippy Sheeskin

For +Squirrel Saturday  #squirrelsaturday  curated by +SE Blackwell and +Skippy Sheeskin with many apologies for my extended absence and lack of support. I was out on a remote safari trying to discover new squirrel varieties. Did not find any this time, but will keep looking.
Hope you all have a squirrelicious Saturday and see you soon!
