The Box Came First

In album Images of my turned work

I have just completed my submission for the AAW POP (Professional Outreach Program) invitational exhibition, "Ceremony" to be held at the American Association of Woodturning Symposium in Phoenix, AZ June 12 – 14th, at the Phoenix Convention Center. It will be exhibited at the American Association of Wood Art in St. Paul, Minnesota before traveling to Phoenix, Arizona. I will be demonstrating at that symposium.

The piece is turned from African blackwood, surface embellished with egg shell, inlaid with thuya burl and with a 24k gilded egg. It is approximately 6" high, 3" diameter.

  1. That is an exquisite workmanship.
I like that it has an inner lid as well.
If I were not to look at other photos, I wouldn't be able to tell it even opens up.

Is that real egg's shell or something specific to wood-work terminology ?

  2. Wow! This is an exquisite and precious masterpiece of art! I guess I wouldn't stop letting my fingers paint over it and feel the different structures! and when opened it has much more amazing details! and I also love how the blackwood looks as well as how the thuja root burl looks – the color and the paintings!! Congratulations!!

  3. Absolutely stunning +Steven Kennard.  It boggles the mind that you can make something so beautiful out of these materials.  And then hide more beauty inside.  I can't wait to hear the applause from AAW POP people and I'm sure I will be able to hear it from my home in TO.
