Corn Dryer, Québec – Steven Kennard 2013

I have been travelling for my work and so I am running behind on my postings for the project but I am hoping to catch up. Here is a photograph I took on my way through Québec. I spotted these corn drying structures that I have not seen since leaving France. I just love the low tech approach to the corn drying.

  1. Never seen (or heard of corn drying, I guess any grain needs drying for long-storage) anything like this.

I suppose the width of that mesh-structure is very short ?

  2. I haven't seen it outside of rural France +Rekha Rao where it is a common sight. The corn is on the cob and in France and other European countries it is used for animal feed, ducks and geese where I used to live in the south west. The mesh containers are about three or feet deep from memory.
