Saturn Box Hot Off the Lathe

In Album Images of my turned work

Originally conceived in 1999 and winner of the Festival of the Arts Award by the Nova Scotia Designer Crafts Council in that year, the Saturn box remains one of my favourites. This is the first one I have made for a while, and the first on the Robust Lathe.

This piece is made from African blackwood and is approximately 3" high and 3" in diameter. And of course it is a box! All my boxes can be purchased from my online 'Small Box Store' on my website: http://www.stevenkennard.com

  1. Thank you +Wynona Gibson.
It makes. It makes me very happy to know you enjoy my work.
I should add however that there's is no enamel on my pieces, it's all wood.
I carefully choose the colours and embellish the surface with engraving to create textures that compliment the various surfaces

  2. +Wynona Gibson – there is no paint nor glaze, just thought I would add this as Steven is in his workshop and I spotted it.
No paint, the wood is naturally that colour, but highly polished. Not with a lacquer or varnish, just a natural wax finish but very very finely polished, which gives it the sheen.
